Swatch & Review: Rain City Lacquer Seattle Sunrise

Seattle Sunrise is a gorgeous polish with a pinky, peachy base packed with the perfect amount of glitter. The only glitter not shown in my swatch is white star glitter, I didn't manage to get any out of the bottle :(

Shown is probably 2 coats (can't remember, sorry!) and no formula complaints to speak of, other than my inability to get the star glitters on my nails. I loved this so much, and then I realized it might look even more amazing matte... So I mattified it!

I love how it looks either way. Which you do you prefer? Sadly I think Seattle Sunrise has been discontinued, but there are many more gorgeous polishes available from Rain City Lacquer.

Rain City Lacquer is available from Rica's BigCartel store, and be sure to check the Facebook page and Instagram for news about restocks and collections!

Bestie Twin Nails with Rei!

Those of you who follow me on Instagram might know that I recently did Bestie Twin Nails with my friend Rei from Reinovate (she is super awesome go follow her blog)! We agreed on doing Togepi patterned nails with a Poké Ball accent nail. The Togepi evolution line is actually one of my favorites in the Pokémon game titles, and I think you'll soon see why :) For my nails, I freehanded blue and red triangles on white polish. The colors I used were Zoya Sooki, Essence Let's Get Lost!, and OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls

I freehanded the triangles using nail art brushes (techncially liquid eyeliner brushes!) and did a Poké Ball accent nail on my thumb.

A solo shot of Rei's mani, from her Instagram! Doing Bestie Twin Nails was so much fun and I highly recommend doing it with someone who you know, or otherwise feel comfortable doing it with! I'm so happy Rei asked me to do BTN with her, I thought it was such a fun experience and would love to do it again :)

Have you ever done Bestie Twin Nails? Lemme know in the comments!

Swatch & Review: A-England Sleeping Palace

Hi everyone :)

Today I have a gorgeous polish which my photos can do absolutely no justice to - Sleeping Palace by A-England. Released as part of the Burne-Jones Dream collection, Sleeping Palace has a gorgeous aubergine-taupe base full of that holo glow that A-England is known for. Sleeping Palace was flawless in one coat, but shown is 2 out of habit.

I wish I could have gotten better photos of this beauty to share with you! It's simply gorgeous in person.

Swatch & Review: Illamasqua Mottle

Kia ora everyone!

I have one of my favorite polishes ever today - Illamasqua Mottle. This was released with Illamasqua's Imperfection collection earlier this year. Mottle has a light, pistachio green base full of small black hex glitters and tiny square glitters.

Shown is 2 coats with top coat. I don't find this polish to be particularly gritty and can skip the Gelous and go straight to my usual quick dry top coat. I also totally didn't realize that the small black glitters in this are super tiny squares! How cute

I'm totally lemming the blue polish in this collection - aside from this, I have the purple one (Speckle) and it is just as gorgeous. This polish is a firm favorite and I love having it in my stash :)

Illamasqua polishes are available from Illamasqua.com and Sephora.com

Nail Art: Poké Ball Nails!

Some of you who follow me on Instagram may know that I play Pokémon a LOT and am a huge fan. So, I have done some really fun Poké Ball nails to commemorate the release of Pokémon X & Y this October 12th! I'm really happy how these have turned out as my first attempt at Poké Ball nails was terrible. These are not perfect but I love them anyways! I've also included a tutorial so you can have a crack at these too! I used Zoya Sooki (thanks, Anneke!), Sally Hansen Black Out, and OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls.

Tutorial time! You'll need a striping brush, a double ended dotting tool (or two!), red, black and white polish. Remember that it's best to wait a few minutes between steps to get the best result!

1) Paint a coat of your red polish, and let dry for a few minutes. If you don't wait, your Poké Ball will be pink on the bottom instead of white!
2) Paint 1 or 2 coats of your white polish, starting from halfway on the nail. It's okay if this is a little bit messy, as it will be covered by the next step.
3) Using your striping brush and black polish, carefully paint a line across your nail.
4) Using the larger end of your dotting tool, place a black dot in the approximate middle of the black line you just drew.
5) Place a slightly smaller white dot in the black dot you placed to create the Poké Ball 'button'.
6) Top coat your nail with a high gloss, fast drying top coat to seal in the design! I STRONGLY advise waiting for 5+ minutes before topcoating to prevent smearing your hard work.

I hope you enjoyed my very first tutorial as well as my first freehand nail art! Let me know what you think in the comments.

Review: Peacock Pie Nail Polish Jewelry

Today I've got something slightly different to show you - nail polish jewelry! These pieces were made by my lovely friend Serra from Peacock Pie (It's also her birthday today, go wish her happy birthday!). I asked if she would make me a pendant using Emily de Molly Cosmic Forces, and to my surprise she sent me the most beautiful a pendant AND ring! The necklace is set in a circular cabochon setting, and the ring is also in a circular setting with an adjustable band which fits most.

Serra makes most of her jewelry using glass cabochons, which are glass domes with a flattened side. I'm really in love with the pieces she has sent me - they are well made and look amazing on! My mom even commented how much she liked my Cosmic Forces necklace (my mom is VERY appearance-focused!) Serra has now set up an Etsy shop where her pieces retail between $11-13 NZD, and she is also open to custom orders. Also, I couldn't NOT do a matching mani! Cosmic Forces is a gorgeous polish and you will soon see it again on my blog soon... And now here is a sneaky photo of me wearing my Cosmic Forces pendant <3
Do you have any nail polish jewelry? What do you think of it?

Let me know in the comments!

Swatch & Review: Liquid Sky Lacquer Iris Illusion

I've got my first thermal polish to show you today - Liquid Sky Lacquer Iris Illusion. This particular polish is a beautiful purple holographic when cold, and becomes a sky-blue holographic when warm.
Shown are 2 easy coats topped with Good to Go. It dries to a satin-matte finish, which I've shown in some photos.

Cold with topcoat
Warm/transitioning with topcoat
Warm/transitioning with topcoat
Warm/transitioning without topcoat
Warm/transitioning without topcoat
Warm/transitioning in direct sunlight
Cold in direct sunlight
I thought this polish was SO much fun because it's my first thermal! I loved noticing the color changing throughout the day in different situations - I can't wait to get more! Do you have any thermals that you love? Let me know in the comments!

I purchased my bottle of Iris Illusion from Mei Mei's Signatures. Liquid Sky Lacquer is also available at their BigCartel shop.

Swatch & Review: OPI Tiffany Case

Today, I have a first for me - my first liquid sand. I also managed to snag this beauty off of NZSale and regret that I didn't buy more! I didn't really know what to expect from the texture of Tiffany Case, but knew it was one of the Liquid Sands which I wanted the most. Tiffany Case was originally released with the Bond Girls Liquid Sand collection. TC is a beautiful silvery-blue textured polish full of silver shimmer and glitters. I found it to be slightly green-leaning on my skin.

It was perfect in one coat, however I chose to go with 2 out of habit. I found that it wore REALLY well, considering that one must forgo topcoat with textured polishes. I personally didn't experience any staining with this polish, however it is known to be a stainer - so double up on your basecoat if you're unsure! Overall, I was SO happy I got this polish - it was prettier than I ever imagined it would be and I am definitely keen for more textured polishes in the future!

Swatch & Review: Butter London Two Fingered Salute

Today, I have Butter London Two Fingered Salute to show you. It is a gorgeous color which I fell in love with as soon as I saw swatches of it! I was sad to learn that it was a Nordstrom's exclusive (for a while anyways) and was overjoyed to find it on NZSale! TFL has a gorgeous muted teal/green base full of copper microglitter which reflects a lovely pink in some lights!

Shown are two easy coats topped with Good to Go. I was so happy to finally squish my lemming* for this polish and add it to my collection <3

Have you squashed a longtime lemming recently?

Let me know in the comments!

Lexie x

*Lemming (noun): "A lemming is a polish that you really, really want, but don’t yet have. Maybe it's HTF, maybe you're just broke. Either way, getting your paws on this polish is called "squashing a lemming", for fairly obvious reasons." Definition from Lacquerheads of Oz

Swatch & Review: China Glaze Neon & On & On

Today I've got a polish from China Glazes summer 2013 collection - a bright pink neon called Neon & On & On. It is so perfectly gorgeous and bright! Here, I've topped it with Lush Lacquer Salt n Pepa. Neon coupled with black and white glitter is always a winner in my book.

I *think* I've shown 2 coats of this (sorry! Can't remember) but either way, I loved this combo and wore it for a while - I know it doesn't sound like much, but wearing polish for more than 1 or 2 days means I REALLY like it. I think I wore this for 3. <3

Let me know what you think of Neon & On & On in the comments below!

Swatch & Review: Rain City Lacquer Market Bouquet

Here's the final installment in my review of Rain City Lacquers - Market Bouquet. Market Bouquet has a very sheer pink base full of smaller holo glitters and large neon hexagons, flowers and butterflies. Here, I've shown 2 coats over 2 coats of Illamasqua Wink.

I found I had to do quite a bit of fishing for the larger glitters, but I still really like the result, especially over Wink! This really made me think of spring/summer flowers, and Market Bouquet is definitely unique in my collection as far as glitters go. This polish definitely needed a generous coat of Gelous to smooth the glitters.

This polish is available from Rain City Lacquer's bigcartel shop, and follow for shop updates on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook!

Swatch & Review: Rain City Lacquer Pink Rain

Hey everyone!

Here's the 4th polish in Rain City Lacquer's Sleepless collection - Pink Rain. A pink-tinted base full of large neon hexagonal glitters, and smaller pale iridescent pink hexagons. I've chosen to layer 2 coats over 2 coats of Lime Crime Peaches <3 Cream, a pastel-neon peach.

Shown is 3 coats, with lots of fishing for the larger glitters. I think a few more larger neon glitters in the bottle would have made a difference. I'm happy I chose to show this over a peachy orange, I love how the pink looks with it! Like all of the other polishes, I would recommend a coat of Gelous before regular quick dry top coat.

This polish is available from Rain City Lacquer's bigcartel shop, and follow for shop updates on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook!
